McNairy County Imagination Library
Our Program
McNairy County Imagination Library
All children who live in McNairy County, Tennessee, are eligible to receive free, classic children's books mailed their homes, regardless of family income, with the possibility of building a library of 60 books. A new age-appropriate book will be received every month from birth to age 5. The books will begin arriving at the child's mailing address about 8 to 10 weeks after enrollment and will arrive each month. Parents are encouraged to read to their children from the time they are born, and many of the books have tips for the parents to improve their children's literacy skills. The Imagination Library is in partnership with the Governor's Books from Birth Foundation, the State of Tennessee, and many generous donors to make this program available to every preschool child in the state. We encourage parents to give their children the love of reading and to read together every day. This is the greatest boost toward a successful education that any child can get.
Our Mission
To increase learning readiness for pre-school children for their entry into the formal education programs at kindergarten; to increase parental involvement in their children's education; and to improve the literacy skills of McNairy County children.
